 On December 9th, 1531, Our Lady appeared to an Aztec Indian named Juan Diego after he and his family were among the first natives to become Christian. It was no coincidence that she appeared that day, since it was the day the Spanish celebrated the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. She appeared to Juan Diego four times; and the fifth time she appeared to his uncle Juan Bernardino to whom she said that she wanted to be called: "Our Lady of Guadalupe, Health of the sick", and immediately he was healed. She told Juan Diego:"…I am the merciful mother of all who live in this land; and all mankind, all of those who seek me, all of those who have confidence in me…". Since there were no boundaries in the American continent at that time, she meant all of the Americas. On October 12th 1960, Pope John XXIII named Our Lady of Guadalupe "Mother of the Americas" She is certainly our mother as she also told Juan Diego: "…Am I not here who am your Mother…". Let us all be entrusted to Our Lady of Guadalupe's care.  El 9 de Diciembre de 1531, Nuestra Señora se le apareció a un indio azteca llamado Juan Diego; después él y su familia fueron los primeros nativos que se bautizaron. No fue una coincidencia que Nuestra Señora se apareciera ese día, ya que los españoles celebraban el día de la Inmaculada Concepción. Ella se le apareció a Juan Diego cuatro veces y la quinta vez ella se le apareció a Juan Bernardino, tío de Juan Diego, y le dijo como Ella quería ser llamada : ”Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, Salud de los Enfermos”. Inmediatemente él fue sanado. Ella le dijo a Juan Diego : “… me honro es ser la Madre compasiva de todos ustedes, tuya y de todas las gentes que habitan en estas tierras y de todos los que a mi clamen, los que me busquen, los que me honren confiando en mi intercesión…”. En aquellos tiempos no habían divisiones en el continente americano; por lo tanto, toda América estaba unida. El 12 de Octubre de 1960, el Papa Juan XXIII declaró a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe como la “Patrona de las Américas”. Ella es ciertamente nuestra Madre, como Ella le dijo a Juan Diego : “¿Acaso no estoy yo aquí que soy tu Madre?” Entreguémonos y pongamos nuestra confianza en Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.
